For an inexpensive, memorable evening, head up to LA's Griffith observatory (which looks eerily like l'observatoire de Nice), overlooking downtown. For only $0, enjoy Hollywood-quality entertainment while learning about the vastness of the universe. That's right, it's free! And newly renovated, with a delightful 23-minute film starring the oh-so-loveable Leonard Nimoy. The only regret is not staying long enough to endure the line-up to peer through the 12-inch Carl Zeiss telescope. Must return.

0$, I think I can afford it. Well, plus the flight ticket to LA, ouch. Maybe, before to get back to France :)
